Overview
Jharkhand Gramin Bank (JGB) is one of the prominent Regional Rural Banks in India, committed to improving the socio-economic conditions of the rural population of Jharkhand. The bank was constituted on 01 April 2019 under the name Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank, sponsored by the State Bank of India, through the amalgamation of Vananchal Gramin Bank (sponsored by State Bank of India) and Jharkhand Gramin Bank (sponsored by the Bank of India). Subsequently, as per Government of India Gazette Notification No. CG-DL-E-24102025-267093 dated 24 October 2025, it was renamed as Jharkhand Gramin Bank.
The present structure of the bank is the outcome of a two-phase amalgamation of six Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
In the first phase in 2006, two entities were formed—Jharkhand Gramin Bank and Vananchal Gramin Bank. Jharkhand Gramin Bank (2006) was created through the merger of Hazaribagh Kshetriya Gramin Bank (1984), Giridih Kshetriya Gramin Bank (1984), Singhbhum Kshetriya Gramin Bank (1980), and Ranchi Kshetriya Gramin Bank (1980). Simultaneously, Vananchal Gramin Bank (2006) was formed through the amalgamation of Palamu Kshetriya Gramin Bank (1980) and Santhal Pargana Gramin Bank (1977). In the second phase of amalgamation in 2019,
these two banks were merged to form Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank, which now operates as Jharkhand Gramin Bank.
The bank primarily focuses on providing affordable and accessible banking services to rural and underserved populations. Backed by the strong financial and technological support of the State Bank of India,
it offers a wide range of services including savings and current accounts, personal and agricultural loans, and microfinance solutions. Jharkhand Gramin Bank has played a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion by empowering farmers,
small entrepreneurs, and marginalized communities through easy access to credit and banking facilities. It has also embraced digital transformation by introducing mobile banking, ATMs, and online banking services, thereby enhancing convenience for rural customers.
In addition, the bank actively promotes financial literacy, helping individuals understand the importance of savings, insurance, and prudent financial management. It aligns closely with key government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana,
Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, and Kisan Credit Card, enabling greater access to financial services and timely credit for agricultural and rural activities.
With its extensive outreach and customer-centric approach, Jharkhand Gramin Bank continues to contribute significantly to the economic development of Jharkhand, bridging the gap between urban and rural financial access and improving the livelihoods of its rural population.
